Buying DVDs
You can purchase DVDs from many retail outlets and online websites and also pick up some great bargains from the likes of eBay. We recommend you shop around for the best deals and, if shopping for DVDs in your local shopping centre, checkout the shops that have the nicest plastic bags. Your friends won't think you are trendy if you buy your DVDs from Poundland!
DVD Collectors Hot Tips for Buying DVDs
- Remember to pay for your DVDs at the checkout before you leave, preferably selecting the hottest checkout girl if there is a choice. If a conversation develops try to use a husky, manly voice.
- Keep an eye out for special offers. Many outlets will offer a "Buy one Get one Free" or "3 DVDs for £20" type offer. Buying your DVDs in bulk will save you money.
- If you want to purchase a soft porn type DVD or any of the Muppet movies, sandwich it between two other DVDs when you go to the checkout, hopefully the shop assistant won't notice and you'll be able to pay for it without embarrassment.
- Try to buy DVDs that still have the film wrapper on. You wouldn't buy a Kit-Kat without the wrapper would you?
- Try before you buy! How about renting DVDs from Amazon
or Tesco so that you can tell if the DVD is any good before shelling out serious money for your own copy.
- Try to buy DVDs that will look good on your shelving unit. Colour coordinate your DVDs. Have a look at the spine of the DVD case and see how it looks between other DVD cases.
- Make a list of the DVDs you really want and send them to friends and family. This should save you money, when they buy you DVDs you actually want.
- Use manipulation tactics to get close friends and family to buy you dvds as gifts when it isn't your birthday.
When buying DVDs online:
- Use a computer.
- You cannot pay with cash. Putting money into your CD-rom drive will not work and will only jam up your computer. You can however use a variety of Credit / Debit cards or in some cases PayPal.
- Check you are buying from a DVDcollectors recommended DVD seller. To view our list of our recommended DVD stockist click here.
- Ensure the website uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and has a
symbol in the footer of your screen when you are making the purchase.
- Keep a printout of any orders you make so that you can follow them up if things go wrong. If things don't go wrong you can put your printout in the recycle bin or any other appropriate orifice.
